A multiphase, new 506,000 square foot Ben E Keith (BEK) food distribution facility was planned, designed, and constructed on the west side of Albuquerque just off Interstate 40. BEK had outgrown their existing facility in Albuquerque’s south valley. The new facility was constructed on a 51-acre site with numerous lot configuration, grading, drainage, and access challenges. The overall 567,000 sf facility was planned with Phase 1 consisting of 242,000 sf. As part of the project, the grading plan required almost 250k cubic yards to be balanced on site and working through the ultimate project plans. An on-site vehicle service/maintenance building with truck fueling facilities was constructed with the development. It was developed in the Atrisco Business Park under a master plan that required amendments and approvals for changes to the plan to accommodate the large BEK facility. Major offsite public infrastructure was constructed as part of this BEK project along with working with the ABCWUA on the water budget and PNM on determining the power requirements for the facility.
